Copyright

I have learned a lot about copyright after completing the digizen badge steps. Copyright means that “all rights are reserved” (Figg, Candace). What this means is that if you take something from the Internet (an idea, artifact, statistic) you must show where you received the information from. For example, you may not show a video in class without acquiring public performance rights. I learned that when I create my own image, video, sound clip, etc, that I need to give it creative commons so that others can use my information (if I want others to be able to use it that is). Also, I learned how to cite images in APA format. It would be most important to teach students that not being able to copyright does not hinder performance… because if anything it can enhance performance. Instead of students taking music and images that do not have Creative Common Licenses, they can create their own images and music. Also, it would be important to teach students how to determine if a clip or image can be legally used. Below are 2 images that are copyright-friendly and I have also cited them.
